What is FIRST?

FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST is a national, non-profit organization with the the mindset to inspire young people to be leaders in all steam fields, by teaching them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills.

   FIRST was founded by Dean Kamen in 1989 and competitions started in 1992. Founder Dean Kamen is an entrepreneur and a major advocate for science and technology. He created FIRST to motivate kids into steam and other skills to help them through out their lives. FIRST was created to help kids improve and learn self-confidence, leadership, and community. 

    FIRST also teaches and uses gracious professionalism all through out their program. Gracious professionalism pushes for high-quality work and to be competitive, while respecting teams and other individuals in FIRST.
